I’m very excited to be part of the team on BBC2’s new interiors show, The Great Interior Design Challenge, soon to air it’s third series. My role is judge alongside Daniel Hopwood, President of the British Institute of Interior Design, and together we’re given the task of judging Britain’s hottest amateur design talent. I’ve previously featured as on-screen Interior Designer for ITV’s ‘60 Minute Makeover’ and Channel 5’s ‘Cowboy Builders’. For more information contact Arlington Enterprises
Speaking and hosting events is an area I particularly love. I relish the opportunity to get up close with my audience and speak with passion and expertise on my subject of interior design. I’m at ease hosting events, providing workshops or delivering a rich visual presentation on a particular topic. In this digital age I’m also very able at presenting videos and online web content. You can see a selection of videos on the Playlist section of my YouTube channel.
As I work across a range of magazine titles the briefs I’m asked to fulfill can be fabulously varied, though my speciality is creating large room sets for decorating schemes. I also collaborate with commercial clients to produce stunning photography for websites, brochures and adverts. Each new project deserves my best. Boundless enthusiasm and a well trained eye helps me interpret any brief with creative flair, and work with you to draw up the concept. My contacts book is bulging with talent: press and PR, florists and prop houses, models, make-up agencies and, of course, the finest photographers in the business.
With years of experience in interior design and addressing peoples design dilemmas, I find it easy to talk about my subject! I’m regularly asked to give presentations on the latest interior design topics to live audiences and have been employed by companies such as B&Q and Crown Paints and magazines such as Ideal Home and House Beautiful. Together with Daniel Hopwood, president Elect of the BIID, we hold Masterclass courses on interior design which can be booked through our website SophieAndDaniel
Over my career as a freelance Interior Stylist I’ve worked for Britain’s top selling titles, including Ideal Home, House Beautiful, Homes and Gardens and Homes and Antiques. I’m keen to work on briefs that interpret the latest trends in interior design as that is my particular area of interest and expertise. With my experience working in-house I’m excellent at sourcing product from a wide range of retailers, from the high street to small independents. I also write features on almost all aspects of interior design. Visit by blog for more of a flavour of the subjects I cover
I have great experience in this specialised area of design. For the past 9 years I produced room sets for The Ideal Home Show and have practical expertise in working to tight time frames within the specific protocols of exhibition halls. At ease with sponsors and celebrities alike, I manage both budget and client expectations. I understand the importance of creating the Wow! factor for visitors and my client list includes Madame Tussaud’s, Capital Radio, Ideal Homes Magazine and B&Q.

Obsessed with interior design from a young age, I constantly re-arranged the furniture in my doll’s house and had a big say in how my bedroom was decorated. I remember at 7 years old, pulling off a bold multi-coloured rainbow theme – not a lot has changed since!
After an Arts Foundation course I did a degree in 3D Design at Brighton. I chose this Designer Maker’s course as it was wildly creative – and I loved the practical element. While fellow students focused on becoming fine jewelers or potters I headed for the plastic workshop making fiberglass and acrylic ‘furniture’ for my imaginary room sets.
After graduating, I set up a workshop at the renowned ‘Cockpit Arts’ in London but life as a product designer didn’t quite do it for me financially! Instead I became an Interior Stylist’s assistant and fell in love with the whole photo shoot process – creating stunning rooms to make wonderful pictures.
This led to a career at BBC Good Homes magazine, working with a team of talented stylists to produce the shopping pages and decorating features for this influential monthly interiors magazine. Since going freelance I’ve worked for many other high profile publications and some of the UK’s most successful furniture and furnishing companies, bringing interior schemes to life through style, design and photography.
Since marrying Tom who runs a building business in our hometown of Brighton, Ark Builders, we have restored and renovated many properties. Current favourites are our three, very originally designed, holiday lets. However we’re currently saving up for our own Grand Design. Aside from my career in interiors I’m a proud Mum and have a passion for time spent in the countryside, yoga and wellbeing.
